Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)
Genital Herpes—caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2)—is a common sexually transmitted infection that any sexually action person can get. Most people with HSV do not know they are infected. This lifelong infection can cause painful blisters and lead to infections in newborn babies. There is no cure for HSV, but medication is available to reduce symptoms and reduce the chance of spreading herpes to a sex partner.
