APPOINTMENTS

Temporary

Temporary/Temporary Assignment Pool

Temporary (TAP) assignments vary in duration depending on the needs of the department; however, assignments cannot exceed 18 months. TAP assignments are temporary and may end at any time at the discretion/needs of the department. TAP employees are hired into provisional appointments and are classified as Services-As-Needed (SAN). Employees in the TAP Program are employees of the Human Resources Services Department.

To obtain a regular appointment, the temporary appointee must apply to open County Exams (recruitments) and successfully compete as described in the Civil Service Commission Rules.

***Temporary employees are not entitled to full County benefits. TAP employees may be eligible for medical, dental, and Share-the-Savings benefits upon meeting established eligibility criteria.

Questions regarding the assignment, such as duties and responsibilities, should be directed to the hiring department/manager; otherwise, questions regarding TAP should be directed to your TAP Case Manager.

PROVISIONAL

A civil service exam is not required for provisional appointments. Provisional appointments are granted when there is an urgent need to hire at which time the department is granted a temporary waiver of the Civil Service Exam Process.

However, to obtain a regular appointment, the appointee must successfully compete in the County Exam process for their classification (position) when open.

Candidates for provisional appointments must meet the minimum qualifications for the County classification (position).

Employees hired into provisional appointments are employees of Health Care Services Agency.

PROJECT

Project positions are generally for a specific duration. Candidates for project positions must meet the minimum qualifications for the County classification (position).
