Health is more than healthcare. More and more research indicates that health is a product of one’s environment, and the opportunities and experiences that exist where one lives, learns, plays, and grows: opportunities to play and be safe from violence, to receive a high-quality education, to access healthy food, to have access to jobs and economic opportunities. We cannot accept this status quo-- and we can change it. These disadvantages start even before birth, but the good news is that the earlier we take action, the more we can do to help every child have the opportunity to succeed.
