Asian, Southeast Asian, Pacific Islander (ASAP!) Breastfeeding Taskforce
Alameda County’s Asian, Southeast Asian, Pacific Islander (ASAP!) Breastfeeding Taskforce recognizes the powerful influence of culturally appropriate, positive images and language appropriate educational messages in helping Alameda County families reach their nursing and infant feeding goals.
ASAP!’s Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Social Media Toolkit provides culturally appropriate lactation educational messages for AANHPI families for social media use.
The toolkit contains ready-made images for Instagram with positive photos depicting AANHPIs nursing and pumping. There are six different educational messages regarding nursing and human milk feeding.
Messages and captions are translated into 11 different AANHPI languages: Chinese (both traditional and simplified), Farsi, Hindi, Hmong, Japanese, Korean, Native Hawaiian, Samoan, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.
This toolkit was made possible with a mini grant from the Friends of La Leche League and with contributions from the following individuals and organizations.
- Planning and message development: Teresa Chan, Jessica Jew, Jeanne Kettles, Priyanka Kundu, Jan Liu-Tat, Pauline Sakamoto, Sophia Tan, Shirley Wang, Grace Yee, Cindy Young
- Translations: Ruta Lauleva Lua'iufi Aiono, Nilda Duma Benigno, Amber Granite, Jenny Han, Rumiko Kitada, Priyanka Kundu, Lily Navab, Harumi Senoo, Pa Houa Shasky, Uyen Tran, Kumu Matthew Kainoa Wong, Tiffany Yang, Grace Yee, and the program staff at the San Francisco Department of Public Health Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program.
