  • Preventing exposure in health care settings
  • General precautions for caretakers, family members, & visitors of people with Zika or suspected of Zika
    • Do not touch blood or body fluids or surfaces contaminated with these fluids with exposed skin.
    • Wash hands with soap & water after providing care to patient. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if hands are not visibly dirty or contaminated.
    • Clean & disinfect surfaces in contact with blood or body fluids with gloves using household detergent/disinfectant.
    • If clothes become soiled with blood or body fluids from patient, remove & wash clothes immediately with household detergent/disinfectant according to manufacturer’s instructions.
