Healthy Kids, Healthy Teeth

dental3Healthy Kids, Healthy Teeth (HKHT) Project aims to improve the dental health of Alameda County children 0 –5 years old by reducing the prevalence of early childhood caries (cavities). The goals of the program include:

  • Increasing access to dental care
  • Reducing early childhood cavities
  • Reducing the costs of dental care for these children

Healthy Kids, Healthy Teeth accomplishes its goals through provider training to increase the number of dentists comfortable and willing to treat young children. HKHT will also train medical doctors in preventive procedures. Families can enroll their child into HKHT to receive a referral to a participating dentist.

Program Eligibility:

Residents of Alameda County who have children 0 – 5 years old and are enrolled in Medi-Cal.

    Healthy baby teeth help children speak clearly, eat well, feel good about themselves, and help permanent teeth come in straight.
  • What are cavities?
    A cavity is a hole in the enamel of the tooth that can cause pain.
  • How can Healthy Kids, Healthy Teeth help your child?
    A child enrolled in the Healthy Kids, Health Teeth program can be referred to a specially trained dentist who can help prevent cavities. The family can learn ways to keep their child’s teeth healthy.
