The Alameda County Public Health Department, along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone 6 months of age and older.

Getting the flu vaccine:

1. reduces illness and transmission in our community
2. reduces clinic visits and hospitalization
3. prevents illnesses that look like COVID-19

The 20223-24 flu season is expected to coincide with continued circulation of the virus that causes COVID-19. The flu vaccine is important every year, but this season it’s critical!

All forms of the vaccine are available this year:

• Nasal sprayers
• Prefilled syringes
• Multi-dose vials (across the different brands

The nasal spray vaccine is available during the 2023-24 influenza season but may be harder to find because of a limited supply.

Where can I get a Flu vaccine?

The best place to receive a flu vaccine is at your doctor’s office, but there are also other options, like pharmacies, clinics or sites on this flu locator website.

Is it safe to get the Flu vaccine and COVID-19 booster at the same time?

Yes, it is completely safe to get both Flu and COVID-19 vaccines at the same time!

What is the Flu?

Influenza (the Flu) is a serious disease caused by influenza A or B viruses, mainly during the winter seasons. It can cause mild to severe illness and at times can lead to death.

• Symptoms include:
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Headache
  • Muscle Aches
  • Weakness
  • Sore Throat
  • Runny Nose

How is the Flu Spread?

• The flu virus spreads through the tiny droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks.
• A person can get infected by breathing in these droplets, or by touching surfaces covered with these drops and then touching their mouth, nose, or eyes.
  • People who have the flu may spread it to others up to 5-7 days after first feeling sick.

Will there be a version of shoo the flu this year and what does that look like? 

We're partnering with school districts that we partnered with previously for COVID-19 (5+) vaccines and will be offering flu and COVID-19 vaccinations at the school-based clinics.
