EMT Certifications

  • EMT INITIAL CERTIFICATION: An individual is eligible for EMT-1 certification upon successful completion of the requirements.
  • EMT RECERTIFICATION: EMT certification is good for two years. In order to maintain certification an individual must recertify every two years.  Non-California applicants should read the Out-of-State Applicants section. An individual is eligible for EMT recertification upon successful completion of the requirements.
  • LAPSED EMT CERTIFICATES: An individual may not work as an EMT or represent him/herself as an EMT with a lapsed certificate. There are no extensions. Once a certificate has expired, an individual will need to complete the requirements.
  • Please note: The EMS Agency will only accept a money order, cashier's check, online payment or department PO for EMT certification, recertification, or paramedic accreditation. We can not accept personal checks or cash.
