Medi-Cal and Presumptive Eligibility

Medi-Cal can help eligible low-income women pay for the prenatal care and delivery. Undocumented immigrants can apply for pregnancy-only coverage. You can find out more about Medi-Cal from the California Department of Health Services web site.

Some Medi-Cal providers can issue eligible pregnant women a temporary Medi-Cal card at the time of their first appointment. This is called the Presumptive Eligibility or PE Program. You will the need to go through the Medi-Cal enrollment process while using your temporary PE card to receive prenatal care.
